Smooth Ship was built because we needed it ourselves.

It started as the internal shipping tool of a real Australian retail and fulfilment operation — and it earned its keep on a real packing bench before anyone thought about selling it.

Like a lot of growing Shopify retailers, we hit the point where shipping became the bottleneck. Orders were coming in faster than our process could handle them honestly: staff jumping between Shopify, the Australia Post portal and the Direct Freight portal; labels printed one PDF at a time; addresses taken on faith; and no way to prove what actually went into a parcel when a customer said something was missing.

So we built the tool we couldn’t buy. One dashboard that pulls in paid Shopify orders, quotes our own carrier rates side by side with fuel and GST included, checks the address before we pay for the label, prints straight to the Zebra on the bench, lodges the manifests, and pushes tracking back to Shopify without anyone copy-pasting a thing.

Then we went after the mistakes. Every order is now scanned — order barcode first, then every product, every quantity — before the box is sealed. If a barcode is missing, a guided visual check keeps the bench moving without losing the audit trail. Every shipment records who packed it, what was scanned, what was quoted and what we were actually charged.

Smooth Ship is that tool, rebuilt for other Australian Shopify retailers who face the same problems. No invented features, no vague promises — everything on this site exists because a real warehouse needed it.
